Jesse R. Baker Principal

Jesse Baker is an Owner, Principal, and Co-Founder of Freehold Capital Management. With over twenty-eight years of experience as a real estate investor, Mr. Baker co-founded FCM in February 2013 with Mr. Tischer.

Jesse is also Principal at Freehold Communities and 360 Communities, subsidiaries of FCM. Prior to FCM, he spent more than a decade at the Baupost Group, a $30 billion value-oriented hedge fund with a long track record of success in distressed debt, public securities, and real estate. As a senior member of the real estate team, he was directly responsible for more than $3.5 billion of real estate securities, debt and private equity investments, and significant profits. Mr. Baker also contributed to the early analysis of the 2005-2008 housing bubble and the extensive real estate holdings of the Lehman Brothers bankruptcy estate, both of which became sizable and very profitable investments. In 2010 he was appointed to the firm’s four-person Operations Committee, reporting directly to the CEO and COO. Prior to joining Baupost, Mr. Baker worked at Goldman Sachs in New York and London, in its real estate investment banking and private equity groups.

Jesse is a graduate of Harvard Business School and the College of Business Administration at the University of Rhode Island (summa cum laude, 1st in class) and he is actively involved in the development and student advancement efforts at both institutions. He resides in Boston, MA with his three children.

Thomas C. Tischer Jr. (“Casey”) Principal

Casey Tischer is an Owner, Principal and Co-Founder of Freehold Capital Management, LLC. With over two decades of real estate experience, Mr. Tischer co-founded FCM in February 2013 with Mr. Baker. Over his career, including his time at FCM, Casey has overseen the entitlement, acquisition, financing, development, and construction of over 30,000 units of for-sale and rental housing, over 250,000 square feet of civic and community space, one million square feet of commercial and retail space, and hundreds of acres of parks and open space. Mr. Tischer is passionate about creating vibrant and diverse communities.

In addition to his roles at FCM, Casey is Principal at 360 Communities, an affiliate of Freehold Communities and a fast-growing provider of high-quality new homes for lease in the nation’s most desirable markets.

Prior to forming FCM, he served as an Executive for SunCal Companies, a national real estate development and management company primarily focused on the acquisition, entitlement, and development of large, mixed-use, and master-planned communities. His SunCal responsibilities included the underwriting, acquisition, capitalization and management of residential and commercial development projects and non-performing loan portfolios.

Mr. Tischer held various executive and development management roles with both private and publicly held companies such as NVR. Inc. and Brookfield Residential.  Prior to starting Freehold, he managed and directed the planning, entitlement, and construction of more than 20,000 residential units (MF and for-sale), over 1 million square feet of commercial and retail development, and more than 6,000 homes and apartments.

Mr. Tischer is a graduate of Trinity College in Hartford, CT. He remains actively involved with Trinity, serving on the Board of Fellows, one of Trinity’s oldest institutional advisory bodies dedicated to overseeing study and discipline, and is also a contributor to the Trinity Football Program. He is also a member of the Young Presidents Organization (YPO). Casey resides in Richmond, VA with his wife and their two children.

Andrew T. Smith Executive Vice President, Operations

Mr. Smith is responsible for all development, operations, and construction activity of Freehold Capital Management, including its subsidary companies, Freehold Communities and 360 Communities. With over two decades of experience as a real estate development executive, Mr. Smith has held various positions with national homebuilders and has an extensive background in both the homebuilder and contractor side of the industry. Over the course of his career, Mr. Smith has managed every aspect of acquisition, entitlement, master-planning, engineering, construction, development, and dispositions, delivering more than 20,000 residential lots across multiple master-planned communities nationwide (including multifamily, build-to-rent and for-sale homes).

Mr. Smith joined Freehold from a large civil site-work company, where he served as an executive responsible for developing infrastructure projects for commercial, industrial and residential clients. Previously, Mr. Smith served as Vice President of Land Development and Acquisitions in the coastal Carolinas for both Pulte and Centex Homes. Here he led the development of a 10,000-unit, active-adult community in Hilton Head, South Carolina. As part of the leadership team for Sun City Hilton Head, Mr. Smith sat on the Board of Directors of all property management associations and was an integral part of the national land development budget-review team.

Mr. Smith is a graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology. He resides in St. Augustine, Florida with his wife and their two children.

Sean P. Maloney Executive Vice President, Administration and Finance

Mr. Maloney directs all the financial reporting and administrative functions for Freehold Capital Management, including its subsidiary companies, Freehold Communities and 360 Communities. Mr. Maloney brings more than 25 years of experience as a finance executive specializing in real estate and joined Freehold Capital Management from Prologis, where he served as Director of Finance for the East Region.

In his role at Prologis, Mr. Maloney was directly responsible for the analysis and capital deployment of more than $450 million of development projects and $600 million of acquisitions. He also directed the U.S. and Canadian development accounting teams at AMB Property Corporation, managing all global development reporting for the publicly traded REIT. Prior to AMB, Mr. Maloney served as an Asset Management Associate at Northland Investment Corporation, where he was involved in the acquisition, disposition, financing, and risk management of commercial, retail, multi-family, and hospitality assets. Over the course of his career, Mr. Maloney has held accounting management roles at RREEF, Cabot Industrial Trust, and Spaulding & Style.

Mr. Maloney is a graduate of Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.

Randy Teteak Executive Vice President, Real Estate

Mr. Teteak is responsible for overseeing acquisitions, underwriting, project finance and strategic dispositions. Mr. Teteak comes to Freehold Capital Management with over 25 years of experience in real estate entitlement, acquisition, financing, development, and construction of over 50,000 units of for-sale and rental housing and several million square feet of office, retail, and industrial development. Mr. Teteak specializes in complex, mixed-use, large-scale development and redevelopment projects involving multiple partners with capital sources from both the private and public sectors. Mr. Teteak also serves in these roles for Freehold Communities and 360 Communities, subsidiary companies of FCM.

Prior to joining FCM, Mr. Teteak was a senior executive at CalAtlantic Homes. Teteak ran the firm’s land investment group responsible for investing hundreds of millions of dollars in strategic land deals across 30 markets.

Prior to CalAtlantic, Mr. Teteak was a senior executive at SunCal Companies, a national real estate development and management company primarily focused on the acquisition, entitlement, and development of large, mixed-use, and master-planned communities. At SunCal, Mr. Teteak oversaw strategic acquisitions and dispositions and served on the firm’s executive and investment committees.

Prior to SunCal, Mr. Teteak was president of O’Donnell Atkins, then the largest land brokerage firm on the west coast.

Prior to his career in Real Estate, Mr. Teteak was a commissioned officer and cobra attack helicopter pilot in the United States Marine Corps. Mr. Teteak is a graduate of Boston College with a BS in finance.

Suzanne M. Fleming Senior Vice President, Marketing & Property Management

Suzanne Fleming directs Freehold Capital Management’s strategic marketing, which includes overseeing market research, community branding and placemaking. Ms. Fleming additionally manages the marketing for FCM’s subsidiary companies, Freehold Communities and 360 Communities.

In these roles, Ms. Fleming develops the firm’s comprehensive Vital Communities approach which distinguishes each community with healthy living, engagement, connectivity, stewardship, and distinctive design. In this way, Ms. Fleming has helped shape Freehold’s master-planned communities – including over 26,000 residential units – from inception, through planning and construction, all the way to bringing them to market. Many of these communities have received national awards and recognition. Ms. Fleming applies the same strategies to Freehold’s Build-to-Rent affiliate, 360 Communities.

Prior to her role with FCM, Ms. Fleming served as Senior Vice President at Lyon Communities, where she managed that company’s marketing, sales, training and development of new mixed-use developments. Before joining Lyon, Ms. Fleming led the Marketing and Research department at Irvine Company as Senior Director. During her tenure at Irvine Company Ms. Fleming was responsible for the marketing and delivery of multiple award-winning master-planned communities, including more than 10,000 homes.

Ms. Fleming is an active member of Urban Land Institute and was recently honored as the “National Marketing Professional of the Year” by the National Association of Home Builders.

Bradley J. Shuckhart Senior Vice President, Acquisitions

At Freehold Capital Management, Mr. Shuckhart directs the day-to-day development and construction activities of Freehold Communities within the state of California. He also serves as Senior Vice President of Acquisitions for 360 Communities, a subsidiary of Freehold Capital Management, dedicated to building and managing high-quality new homes for lease.

Prior to joining Freehold, Mr. Shuckhart served as Vice President of Land Acquisitions at SunCal Companies, a privately held real-estate developer of residential and commercial properties in the US. Over the course his career, Mr. Shuckhart has led the acquisition and development of more than a dozen master-planned communities in California, Nevada and Texas, with a total sellout value in excess of $2 billion. Mr. Shuckhart has extensive experience with every aspect of land development, including acquisitions, entitlements and dispositions.

Mr. Shuckhart is a graduate of Pomona College and earned his MBA from USC’s Marshall School of Business with an emphasis on real estate finance.

Chris Middleton Senior Vice President, Operations

As Senior Vice President of Operations for Freehold Capital Management, Mr. Middleton oversees the day-to-day operations for 360 Communities, a subsidiary of Freehold Capital Management. 360 Communities is dedicated to building and managing high-quality new homes for lease in some of the nation’s most desirable markets. His role at 360 Communities includes acquisition of new sites, development of production, and establishing leasing operations with third-party management companies.

For more than 20 years Mr. Middleton has managed the development and construction of complex residential, commercial, retail, and industrial properties. His past executive positions relate directly to 360 Communities. They include Land Development Manager and Regional Vice President – Acquisitions & Development – for American Homes 4 Rent. Mr. Middleton was also Partner/Manager – Acquisitions, Land Development and Construction – for The Alterra Group. And he served as Land Development Manager at KB Home in Jacksonville, Florida.

Mr. Middleton earned a Bachelor of Science (with Honors) from University of Florida. And he is licensed as Certified General Contractor and Real Estate Sales Associate from the State of Florida.

Quintin Grandstaff Vice President, Finance

Quintin Grandstaff is involved in underwriting of new investments, capital markets and asset management for Freehold Capital Management Group, including its subsidiary companies, Freehold Communities and 360 Communities.

Prior to joining Freehold in 2013, Mr. Grandstaff worked at a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based tech startup on the finance team, raising multiple rounds of venture capital.

Mr. Grandstaff graduated from University of New Hampshire with a BS in Business Administration and Management.

Katherine Rowe Vice President, Internal Counsel

Katherine Rowe provides legal counsel supporting Freehold Capital Management’s corporate and real estate development activities. Her practice touches all aspects of development, from acquisition to disposition and internal operations for Freehold and its subsidiaries.

Ms. Rowe works closely with internal business units to draft and negotiate contracts with project vendors ranging from engineers and contractors to marketing and advertising consultants. She also works with internal business units as well as investors and local counsel on public and private finance transactions, branding, litigation, conveyancing and other complex real estate and commercial transactions to advance the unique goals and visions for each project.

Prior to joining Freehold Capital Management, Ms. Rowe was a contract analyst at a fortune 500 retail pharmacy and healthcare company, where she drafted and negotiated a wide array of vendor agreements related to the company’s facility build-out and remodel initiatives.

Ms. Rowe received her Juris Doctorate from Suffolk University Law School and her Bachelor of Arts with a double major in Ethics History and Public Policy and International Relations and a minor in Russian studies from Carnegie Mellon University. She is admitted to the Bar in Massachusetts and is an active member of the ABA Forum on Construction Law as a member of the Corporate Counsel Division Steering Committee.

Peter K. Kyte Vice President, Acquisitions in Virginia & the Carolinas

Peter Kyte is responsible for the acquisition, planning, entitlement, development, and disposition for Freehold Capital Management, in the region. Mr. Kyte brings nearly two decades of experience in the real estate industry.  His service includes Freehold Communities and 360 Communities, subsidiaries of FCM.

Mr. Kyte comes to Freehold Capital Management from The Roanoke Group (TRG), a boutique real estate investment and development company he co-founded in 2010. At TRG, Mr. Kyte led the acquisition, entitlement, development, and disposition of planned residential communities in Arizona, California, and Illinois and over three million square feet of commercial real estate in the Southeast.

Previously, Mr. Kyte worked for Pacific Century Group, one of the largest private homebuilders and land development companies, at the time, with operations in California, Arizona, and Texas. Before running the firm’s Arizona homebuilding division, Mr. Kyte was responsible for the acquisition, forward planning and entitlement of master-planned communities in Southern California.

Mr. Kyte earned a B.A. from Colgate University. He and his wife reside in Richmond, Virginia with their son. Mr. Kyte currently serves on the board of The Roanoke Group and Roanoke Capital Management.

Amy M. Hendrick Vice President, Dispositions

Amy Hendrick brings her experience with land acquisition and sales to serve the development goals of Freehold Communities, as well as 360 Communities, subsidiaries of Freehold Capital Management. She negotiates purchase contracts with home builders, coordinates project consultants and manages transactions from contract execution to closing.

Prior to joining the Freehold and 360 teams, Ms. Hendrick served as senior real estate counsel for Buc-ee’s, a regional convenience store chain, pursuing an aggressive expansion plan across the Southeast. In that role, she engaged with teams handling all aspects of development including acquisition, entitlements, finance, title and construction matters. She previously practiced law with national law firms Winston & Strawn and Locke Lord.

Ms. Hendrick graduated with honors from the University of Texas School of Law and with a B.S. in Journalism, magna cum laude, from Texas A&M University.

Matt D. Matthews Regional President, Texas & Colorado

At Freehold Capital Management, Mr. Matthews directs all acquisition, construction, development and disposition activity in Texas and Colorado, for both Freehold Communities and 360 Communities.
 
With more than 30 years of experience as a real estate executive, Mr. Matthews has developed and managed every aspect of entitlement, master-planning, development, construction, public finance, and dispositions, including the delivery of 10,000 residential lots and multiple master-planned communities in Austin, Houston and El Paso.
 
Prior to his role at Freehold Communities, Mr. Matthews co-founded Charter Development Partners, a full-service real estate company where he also served as Principal. The firm provided development consulting and brokerage services to homebuilders, investment groups and lending institutions. He has worked with several high-profile public and private homebuilders including DR Horton, Lennar, KB Home, Taylor Morrison, Toll Brothers, Pulte/Centex, and Ryland. Over the course of his career, Mr. Matthews has directed the development of 28 residential communities, including the Augusta Pines Golf Community, a 1,100-acre master-planned community south of The Woodlands, Texas.
 
Mr. Matthews is a graduate of the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin and is a licensed Texas Real Estate Broker.

Gerrit Albert Regional President, Southeast

As Regional President for the Southeast, Gerrit Albert leads the operations on three of the South’s premier master-planned communities. Mr. Albert has over 20 years of experience in master-planned communities encompassing all aspects of project development, sales and marketing, club and golf management, and operational leadership. His experience in leading master-planned communities includes being General Manager of Palmetto Bluff in Bluffton, South Carolina, where he oversaw everything from hotel management and resort amenities to golf course management and real estate sales. Mr. Albert has experience with many other leading firms, including Reed Development (President Hampton Lake), Toll Brothers (President of Hampton Hall), and The Branigar Organization. He has served as Vice Chair of the Urban Land Institute Recreational Development Blue Council and holds real estate licenses in Georgia and South Carolina.

A native of Savannah, Gerrit earned an M.B.A. from Vanderbilt University where he was Beta Gamma Sigma (top 10% of class), and a B.A. from Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina.

Mike McCollum Division President, Florida

Mr. McCollum directs all construction and development activity in the state of Florida. This includes the noted Shearwater masterplan in St. Augustine, where Mike is responsible for community and amenity design, land use and construction permitting, civil site construction, lot sales and homeowners association management.

Prior to joining Freehold, Mike performed multiple management roles in real estate, construction, and risk management over 20 years. This includes service with private and publically held homebuilders. His range of experience covers every aspect of land development, including acquisitions, entitlements, construction and dispositions.

Mike has a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Clemson University and a Masters of Business Administration from University of Georgia. He is active in the Northeast Florida Builders Association, and serves on the Gator Bowl Committee, which produces one of the nation’s longest-running college football bowl games.

He lives in Ponte Vedra, Florida, with his wife Jenny and sons Luke and Ben.
